Torquay is set for new secondary and primary schools after this week’s state budget, according to South Barwon MP Andrew Katos.
He said the budget included $5.5 million over the next 12 months for a new Torquay secondary school.
A further $5.25 million would pay for land to build the town’s second primary school.
Mr Katos said the budget would provide Torquay with its “largest ever” education investment.
“I’m very proud to deliver this in my first budget. Now we’ll focus on releasing the final site for the primary and secondary schools in the next few weeks – it’s imminent.”
Mr Katos said the total cost of the high school was $34.9 million. The land would cost $8.4 million and the building $26.5 million.
Tuesday’s budget also included $2 million for an “early-learning hub” for Grovedale, $1 million for a new Barwon Heads’ kindergarten and $500,000 for expansion of Torquay’s kinder.
Ward councillor Andy Richards praised the funding for Barwon Heads’ kindergarten.
