AUTISM and epilepsy have failed to stop Jay Ennor from wanting to do something for others facing their own health fights.
The 23-year-old from Bell Post Hill will repay the kindness shown to him when he embarks on a World’s Greatest Shave fundraiser – even though he hates shaving.
“That’s why I grew my beard in the first place,“ Jay smiled.
But taking a step like this required a lot of effort for someone with autism, he conceded.
But Jay is making inroads on a number of fronts, signing up for football umpire training with hopes of umpiring his first junior game this season.
The shave fundraiser also gave Jay perspective on his own situation and helped him realise what others went through, he said.
“The support I have received has been phenomenal, to say the least, and my participation in the World’s Greatest Shave is my way of giving back to the community that has given so much to me.”
Jay has already been pledged 25 per cent of his $560 target.
Support agency Nexxt assists Jay to improvie his social interaction and community access.
Nextt’s Ann Dreiberg said Jay was well-known for his ability to assume a leadership role and mentor the other members of his support groups.
“Jay always shows compassion with others. He’s always willing to converse with others, displaying a politeness and regard for others that’s second to none.”
Donations and messages of support can be left on Jay’s fundraising page at my.leukaemiafoundation.org.au/rimin392.
