Cosy exhibition

Kim Waters
TOURISTS are in for a “weird and wonderful” experience this weekend as a wacky Tea Cosy Exhibition hits Queenscliff.
Event organiser Richard Allen said the four day exhibition, starting today, included “the biggest display of weird and wonderful tea cosies and tea pots on the Bellarine Peninsula”.
“There will be hundreds of knitted, quilted and welded tea cosies in every kind of shape and style you can imagine,” he said.
“You can let your imagination run wild when making a tea cosy and while some are very traditional there are others absolutely out of this world.”
Judges would award prizes to the “wonderfullest” and “weirdest” designs, Mr Allen said.
“Visitors can come and check out the exhibit for free and there will be tea pots, tea cosies and fair trade teas and accessories for sale.”
Mr Allen said locals had “combined their talents” for the event, making more than 100 tea cosies in three months.
“It’s brought a lot of people together who wouldn’t have known each other, so in that way it’s been a social event for us.
A few “undercover” men in the community had also joined the fortnightly craft sessions, Mr Allen said.
Funds raised at the exhibit will support local organisations, Mr Allen said.
A successful exhibition could mean a weird and wonderful follow up next year, he said.
