Artists from Geelong neighbourhoods will take over a part of the city’s library this month in an annual exhibition of community creativity.
Art from the Neighbourhoods features the work of 33 local artists at the Geelong Library and Heritage Centre.
“The Art from the Neighbourhoods is an exciting community event that celebrates the many creative talents from our local communities,” organiser Christine Brooks said.
“It is also a terrific opportunity for people to gather together, make new friends and enjoy some fabulous pieces of artwork through a shared creative experience.”
The artists honed their skills at some of the Barwon Region’s 25 neighbourhood houses, at locations such as Grovedale, Hamlyn Heights, Norlane and Queenscliff.
“The event is a celebration of community skill and creativity that would not otherwise be displayed, acknowledged or shared,” Christine said.
“Imagine the personal and community pride that comes from seeing your artwork shared with the broader community.”
The art exhibition was now in its third year, Christine said.
“By bringing people together in a supportive environment, we are aiming to increase a sense of community pride.”
The exhibition runs at Geelong Library and Heritage Centre from Tuesday 12 to Sunday 17 December.
The library’s cafe will host a launch for the exhibition beginning at 3.30pm on 12 December.
In 2017, 8484 people visited neighbourhood houses in the Barwon region each week, with a weekly average of 408 people volunteering at the centres.
