Superstar Lyons Geelong’s billion-tweet baby and $50 million man

GEELONG mayor Darryn Lyons has become the city’s superstar billion-tweet baby with his social media impressions going stratospheric over his first year in office.

New figures from City Hall show his @Geelong_Mayor twitter account drew 1.29 billion impressions since taking office late November last year.

The colourful media-savvy mayor also drew a massive media quotient tallied at more than $50 million at a daily average of $142,000.

Online media attention for Geelong was valued at $18.8 million, TV at $19.6 million and print at $13.1 million.

Cr Lyons’ personal twitter account’s followers  climbed from 900,000 to 1.2 million while the @Geelong_Mayor account drew 109,000 followers.

The mayoral Facebook account, meanwhile, enjoyed 8.2 million unique browsers for a total reach of 30.2 million.

The average number of likes per post was 838.

The Lyons-led Christmas campaign for Geelong enjoyed phenomenal response with #geelongchristmas enjoying 70 million twitter impressions and two million Instagram impressions.
