Belmont trades on festive spirit

BY MICHELLE HERBISON

BELMONT’S traders are pioneering a collective Christmas spirit with a series of white elves dancing along High St shop windows this month.
Belmont Business Association treasurer Maree Fennelly said the stick-on elves would rejuvenate the area and attract shoppers in the lead-up to Christmas.
“It’s just to give some continuity and bring some life into the street. They start from down at the Belmont Hotel and work their way up High St and into Thomson St,” Ms Fennelly said.
“You have to look up high and down low to find them.”
Ms Fennelly said about 20 traders were participating.
“Hopefully we can expand on this and make Belmont a really Christmassy place to shop.”
The area would celebrate with late-night shopping, a free sausage sizzle and a Santa visit on 20 December, Ms Fennelly said.
“If you can guess how many elves there are all together, tell Santa and whoever gets the correct answer on the night gets a special treat.”
