New peninsula councillor set for busy term

NEW City of Greater Geelong councillor John Doull is gearing up for a “busy and hard” four years on the Bellarine Peninsula.
The Coryule ward councillor, who ousted Tom O’Connor, said he was keen to foster and implement key projects for residents and community groups.
“The first thing is to champion and continue the work already done with the Bellarine Peninsula strategic plan,” he said.
“There’s a lot of good work that’s been done but it now needs to be implemented and I’m more than happy to follow through with that.
“I’m keen to work with community groups because I see myself as their spokesperson and I value people being involved.”
Cr Doull said coastal town planning, environmental education on climate change and public transportation were also priority issues.
“Certainly, planning for coastal rural areas is key because research suggests that most people want coastal rural villages to remain as they are,” he said.
“It’s going to be a busy and hard four years but I’m very grateful to be here.”
Cr Doull recently moved to Portarlington with wife Louise and his four sons after a decade at Queenscliff.
He was a Borough of Queenscliffe councillor for the previous term.
“There were personal reasons behind the move but, basically for work and because the kids go to Christian College at Drysdale.”
