ONE of Australia’s oldest charity organisations wants to update the way it connects with the local community.
Red Cross Geelong held its first Red Cross Connects event this week, inviting partner agencies, local authorities and members to find new ways of coordinating and networking.
Red Cross membership coordinator David Fitzroy said the organisation’s name was usually associated with blood donations or crisis assistance.
“We want people to know the organisation is much more than that and this is an opportunity to change the way we interact with the community,” he said.
“We don’t really talk about what we do, so we want to spread the message that Red Cross is about social inclusion, community visors, family services, drug education and programs like Save a Mate.”
Mr Fitzroy said the inaugural Red Cross Connects event also updated members on latest initiatives so they could act as ambassadors for the organisation.
