GIGS in Atlanta, Las Vegas and New York have nothing on kicking off an Australian tour in Geelong, according to OH WHAT A NIGHT!’s George Solomon.
Speaking over the phone from Las Vegas, Solomon told the Independent the tour would be his first time down under.
Solomon was thrilled his musical tribute to Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons was on the way to Geelong.
“You can expect a high-energy, feel-good show because this music is so timeless and the audience just goes crazy. It’s charming and contagious,” he said.
“We’ll be bringing the original cast too, which is even more exciting for Australian audiences. First stop, Geelong!”
Solomon began performing professionally at the age of 15.
He went on to receive a New York Drama Critics Award for best actor, had the lead role in musical revue Stars On 45 and performed alongside Diana Ross, Bill Cosby, Tina Turner, Stevie Wonder, Harry Connick Jr and Liza Minnelli.
Solomon said he had encountered many Australians along the way.
“I’ve performed all over the States and at several venues overseas and I’ve had people from Australia come up and say ‘I wish you would bring the show over to Australia’. “People have already made us feel so welcome and so comfortable.
“I have adrenalin and excitement about coming over.”
Solomon encouraged music lovers to attend the show regardless of their tastes.
“I think the music is universal. The one thing I’ve learned about the show is it doesn’t matter the age of the audience or where they’re from, they all seem to enjoy it the same.
“I’ve seen preteens singing the words and one lady even came up to me after one show and said her 86-year-old grandmother loved it – and she didn’t even speak English!”
Solomon said audiences could expect to hear Franki Vallie hits including Sherry, Big Girls Don’t Cry, Can’t Take My Eyes Off You, My Eyes Adored You and Who Loves You.
OH WHAT A NIGHT! will play Geelong Performing Arts Centre on August 30.
