DINERS are flooding the region’s premier restaurant awards with nominations and reviews for the Independent’s People’s Choice prize.
Golden Plate Awards general manager Pamela Jewson said the response was staggering given the Independent only began advertising the call for nominations in last week’s paper.
“We’re extremely surprised and pleased nominations are coming in so soon and at such an alarming rate. We already have had 489 reviews sent to our website.”
The winner of the People’s Choice award will receive a $2000 advertising package in the region’s highest-circulating newspaper, the Independent.
Ms Jewson said the public response to the People’s Choice prize had sent a “surge of excitement” through the region’s restaurant industry.
Diners who lodge nominations and reviews go into a draw to win dinner for two at 2010 Golden Plates award winner Maple Tree, in Lorne.
The major Golden Plates awards feature six “professional national judges” scoring venues on a 36-point criteria.
Winners will be announced at a presentation night on November 7.
More information and nominations are available at goldenplate awards.com.au.
