Ring road truck stops added

Two new truck rest stops are now open on the Geelong Ring Road at Waurn Ponds.

Corangamite MP Darren Cheeseman said the rest areas would give motorists much-needed and potentially lifesaving breaks.

“These truck stops on each side of the Geelong Ring Road will help us combat fatigue-induced crashes by allowing road users, especially heavy vehicle drivers, to stop, refresh and regroup before continuing their journeys.

“This project is great news for approximately 9000 vehicle drivers that use the Geelong Ring Road every day, and we encourage them to make use of the rest facilities provided.

“In bringing this project to completion, we have also planned for the future by ensuring that the sites are large enough for future development, such as a petrol station or a food outlet,” said Mr Cheeseman.

Victorian Minister for Roads, Terry Mulder, said the truck stops offered two rest areas, four truck holding bays, nine truck parking bays and 13 car parking spots, including two disabled parking spaces.

“We have also taken great care to limit the rest stops’ environmental footprint, with solar electricity for lighting, rain water reticulation and self-contained sewer systems,” Mr Mulder said.
