MORE than 500 northern suburbs residents will enjoy improved internet speeds after Telstra upgraded its North Geelong exchange.
The northern upgrades follow similar upgrades to the Belmont exchange.
The Independent has recently reported on a number of broadband blackspots and unavailability of connection for customers including businesses.
Telstra Country Wide area general manager Duane Dalton said an extra 200 ports were installed in the exchange earlier this year.
The speed boost of up to 200 megabits a second would also assist around 150 businesses in the northern suburbs, he said.
“We’re aware that some of our customers in North Geelong have had issues receiving a fast fixed broadband service or had inconsistencies with their speed at home or at work. We have lots of activities around schools and sporting clubs so we are happy to announce these upgrades in order to meet the demand the area generates.
“Customers with a variety of internet service providers will notice a difference in the speed of their connection and reduced buffering, with more seamless downloads. We’re committed to ensuring North Geelong locals have the best internet experience possible and this upgrade is a reflection of that.
“We’re confident that this infrastructure will help meet customer’s demand and expectations.”
