Half of coast board returned

More than half the members of the board overseeing management of the Surf Coast’s foreshore would keep their jobs, State Government announced yesterday.
Environment Minister Gavin Jennings said the Government had reappointed five of Great Ocean Road Coast Committee’s nine board members.
The committee and its board came under public fire earlier this year amid controversial plans to install parking meters in surf beach car parks at Torquay, Jan Juc and Anglesea.
State Government eventually overruled the committee to kill off the meters plan.
Mr Jennings said the new board would “continue to ensure a great future” for the foreshore between Point Impossible and Lorne.
“This combination of new and old members provides continuity while introducing new and fresh ideas to enhance the work of the committee,” he said.
Mr Jennings announced former board member and ex-Surf Coast Shire chief executive officer Peter Anderson would be chairman.
Other reappointed members are: Toni McCormack, of Torquay; Joe Taylor, Jan Juc; Peter Lavis, Lorne; and Dennis Barker, as Surf Coast Shire’s representative on the board.
New members are: John Carlile, Anglesea; Vanessa Schernickau, Airey’s Inlet; Kathy Landos, Lorne; and Sally Snedden, Anglesea.
The former board’s term finished in August.
