Board names under wraps

State Government has refused to reveal its new board for Surf Coast’s foreshore management body.
A spokesperson for Environment Minister Gavin Jennings confirmed the Government had chosen board members it “wanted” but would not say who they were.
The spokesperson attributed the secrecy to incomplete paperwork.
“There is a process we have to go through and we expect to have something to show the public in the next few weeks.”
The previous board’s term expired in August.
Another Government spokesperson attributed the delay in appointing a new board to a ministerial reshuffle after the resignation of former Premier Steve Bracks.
The coast committee manages foreshore areas from Point Impossible to Lorne.
The previous committee stirred community anger earlier this year with a proposal to install parking meters at surf beaches in Torquay, Jan Juc and Anglesea.
The plan led to calls for the Government to sack the committee and to Surf Coast councillors pushing for a shire takeover of the organisation. The committee eventually dropped the plan after it failed to win the Government’s support.
