Kiwi dancer’s Astaire show

Recreating the magic of Fred Astaire is no easy task – the legendary dancer was still toe-tapping at age 71 at the 1970 Oscars.
But Melbourne-based dancer and New Zealand expat Jeremy Hinman will give it a red-hot go when he comes to Geelong this month.
Hinman brings the dance routines of the era to life alongside fellow Kiwi Hillary Moulder and pianist Ben Taylor in A Fine Romance: The Magic of Fred Astaire.
One of the greatest dancers and performers of all time, Astaire starred in more than 10 Broadway and London musicals and made 31 musical films.
The show will journey through Astaire’s life, from his humble beginnings on Broadway, to his iconic Hollywood days.
Hinman will tap-dance, swing and waltz his way through Astaire’s on-screen romances, with Moulder playing lead ladies Judy Garland, Audrey Hepburn, Rita Hayworth and Ginger Rogers.
The show features the costumes of decades past and timeless music of Irving Berlin, Cole Porter and the Gershwins.
A Fine Romance: The Magic of Fred Astaire hails the return of Musical Mornings at Geelong Performing Arts Centre with two 10.30am shows on 18 and 19 April.
Songs include The Way You Look Tonight, They Can’t Take That Away From Me, Let’s Call the Whole Thing Off, Cheek to Cheek, Puttin on the Ritz, Top Hat, That’s Entertainment and more.
