Baseball club hopes to be a hit on its come-and-try day

By John Van Klaveren

IT’S A game combining the exciting aspects of soccer, 20/20 cricket and athletics and it’s great for all ages and abilities.
Enthusiastic baseball fan Dave Crotty said players could dive like a goal keeper, hit like Aaron Finch and run like a sprinter.
Bellarine Bears Baseball Club will host a come-and-try day at its Wallington Recreation Reserve home base for juniors from 9 am and seniors from midday on 15 March.
Crotty said the club ran junior baseball versions of programs like kanga cricket and Auskick.
“It’s great for kids aged between four and 10 years so they can have a go and be introduced to the sport,” he explained.
“We spend a fair bit of time with our kids and encourage parent participation. If the kids enjoy it they can get further involved.
“We run after-school programs and we have coaches running clinics. We have an indoor batting shed with hitting nets and a pitching machine that can shoot out a couple of hundred balls for batting practice.”
Crotty said anyone wanting more information could phone him on 0418 520 259 for juniors and Chris Barker on 0434 576 667 for seniors.
