A replacement site for motocross in the region has still not been found, almost a year after the search began.
Council’s alliance group G21 announced it was seeking expressions of interest for land suitable for a motocross facility.
The region’s main motocross site, McAdam Park, is due to close this month, Geelong Indy reported in January.
Councillors voted then to spend $50,000 on finding a new site after Barrabool residents won a long legal and planning battle to close the track.
State government, Motorcycling Australia and Surf Coast Shire paid over $1.5 million to buy the site.
G21 said it would conduct a Motocross Land Suitability Assessment to identify potential sites for a regional level motocross facility in the region.
The study includes an expression of interest process to identify potential privately-owned sites suitable.
City of Greater Geelong Sport and Recreation portfolio holder Councillor John Irvine said the City would facilitate the expressions of interest process on behalf of the G21.
“The study and expressions of interest process will require potential sites to meet a range of criteria and importantly to find a site which best meets the community’s needs,” he said.
The land suitability assessment and expressions of interest process would evaluate sites based on site size, road access points, nearby residential property boundaries, soil type and terrain.
The process allows for the site to be leased, purchased, bequeathed or gifted for use.
Expressions of Interest submissions close at 2pm on 20 January.
