MORE than 2000 bras are scattered throughout two women’s gyms in Geelong after donors opened their hearts – and drawers – to a call for help.
The Contours gyms accepted donations of everything from sports bras and lacy lingerie to maternity cups and standard beige favourites for struggling women in Third World countries.
The gyms joined forces with the Independent to seek the donations for Project Uplift.
Contours’s Sam Jones said the bras would make “unimaginable” differences to recipients’ lives.
“Aside from the obvious health benefits of proper support, in some countries underwear is seen as a sign of prosperity,” Ms Jones said.
“The physical and sexual abuse of women who can’t afford such a luxury because of their social standing is horrible.”
Ms Jones said the response to the second annual appeal for bras was overwhelming.
“It seems to have touched a lot of women.”
Ms Jones said Contours would continue accepting donations until Wednesday.
