THE TRANSPORT Accident Commission (TAC) and the Geelong Cats have joined forces to call on the community to push for a zero road toll.
TAC chief Joe Calafiore called on Geelong community leaders for their support, acknowledging that Towards Zero was an ambitious target.
“But unless we’re working towards the highest possible benchmark, Geelong, Bellarine and Surf Coast residents will continue to lose loved ones to road trauma and we can never accept that,” Mr Calafiore said.
“If we’re not aiming for zero we’re saying to ourselves that there’s an acceptable level of road trauma.
“That’s why it’s up to all of us, as leaders in the Geelong community, to work together Towards Zero.”
Geelong Cats chief Brian Cook said the club had embraced Towards Zero with a safe-driving policy and continued education of staff and players.
“Road safety is something we feel very strongly about and this policy applies to everyone who drives a club vehicle,” Mr Cook said.
The Towards Zero message will be promoted at Simonds Stadium during the round-23 clash with Adelaide tomorrow.
More information on the initiative is available at towardszero.com.au.
