Kids off their Facebook as cops probe drug page

By PAUL MILLAR

POLICE are investigating a graphic Geelong Facebook account filled with vile images of local teenagers using drugs.
The site details local drug culture, with several of the featured teenagers known to Geelong police.
Visitors to the page have identified some of the alleged drug users, one as a boy aged 14.
Spaced out teenagers, looking into the distance, smoking bongs, vomiting or holding deal bags, litter the sordid page.
Victoria Police said it would ask Facebook to remove the page after it was revealed by the Independent.
A spokeswoman said Victoria Police would assess the posts.
State Youth Affairs Minister Jenny Mikakos was also alerted to the page.
“The Andrews Labor Government does not condone the use of illegal and dangerous drugs or any attempt to glorify or celebrate their use,” she said.
Geelong councillor Eddy Kontelj was shocked at the graphic images and wondered whether some of the youths pictured were aware they featured on the page.
“It’s extremely sad and irresponsible for anybody to set up a site like this,” said the councillor for Cowie ward, where some of the images were taken.
“It’s a sad blight on society and whoever set up the site needs to be dealt with.”
Under Victorian law it is illegal to use, possess, cultivate or traffic a drug of dependence.
The site had more than 4200 likes this week. Its ‘about’ section claimed the page “was created for entertainment purpose only, not to offend or hurt anybody. If you wish to submit anything please contact us via Inbox”.
No effort is made to hide faces on the page and it is unclear whether the subjects posed for the shots.
An image from 4.49am 30 August at Rippleside shows a teenage girl with a glass pipe in her mouth and holding two snaplock bags, with pink pills in one and crystals in the other.
Another shows two females with two bags of what appears to be marijuana. Another shows a teenage male smelling a mature marijuana plant.
A female complained on the page that it had posted her image three times in 2.5 weeks.
The page administrator replied: “Here’s some good advice, take any drug you want just don’t tell the whole … world, that’s your problem so don’t complain about being on here when you clearly want everybody in Geelong to know”.
The Independent was unable to obtain comment from Facebook.
