‘False documents’ link after city motel raided

By PAUL MILLAR

TWO MEN faced Geelong Magistrates Court yesterday on a multitude of charges related to a police raid on an Aberdeen St motel.
Lee McElroy, 34, of Melton, was charged with possessing implements designed or adapted for the production of false documents.
He was also charged with obtaining property by deception, possessing and using a drug of dependence and dealing with the proceeds of crime.
The heavily tattooed Mr McElroy, who sat between two guards, did not apply for and was refused bail.
He was remanded to face the same court next Wednesday.
The court heard that Mr McElroy needed medication because he had a bipolar disorder and had an acquired brain injury.
He answered “no worries” when Magistrate Ron Saines asked whether he understood that he would be remanded until at least next week when an application for bail might be heard.
Keegan Longstaff, of Grovedale, was the other man arrested in the raid at the Aberdeen Motor Inn.
Mr Longstaff was charged with similar offences including a firearm charge.
The 26-year-old was remanded until the same date as Mr McElroy, with both men expected to make bail applications at their next hearing.
Two women were also arrested during the raid on the motel.
They were charged with drug and property offences.
Both women were bailed to appear in court at a date to be set.
The raid was part of an ongoing police investigation involving fraudulent identity certificates.
