COUGHS and colds ran rampant across Geelong this week as spring arrived in a flurry of rain, wind and fluctuating temperatures.
Bad pun of the week went to the wit who heard of the spluttering bug infecting brassy Geelong soul band Sweethearts.
“That’s what can happen with unprotected sax,” he observed.
Short-term Geelong mayor Keith Fagg was also infected, using his weekly newspaper column to announce he, too, had caught a nasty cold.
Keith feverishly imagined the virus “boogying” in his head, “complete with psychedelic lighting and mirror ball, each nose blow providing the dance track”.
Hopefully he never catches gastro.
COUNCIL colleagues Andy Richards and Darryn Lyons are pictured putting on their happiest faces to promote a new expo.
Despite some heated differences, especially Mayor Lyons’ floating Christmas tree, the politically odd couple joined forces this week for the Smarter Living Expo at GPAC on Saturday.
City Hall said the expo on green ideas for the home and beyond included a seminar on “climate reality” with “Al Gore-trained leaders”.
Maybe the leaders are Crs Richards and Lyons, who together certainly know all about heated climates.
“WHEN I’m at home I get distracted by the TV and the fridge.”
So says Geelong’s Sam Armytage, co-anchor of TV’s Sunrise and soon-to-be author.
Sam’s just penned a book called Shine, which Hachette Australia plans to launch in December.
The book’s all about keeping goals in sight and feet on the ground in a world that’s competitive, glamorous and gruelling.
Sam credits niece Lucia as her inspiration.
“Seeing a new generation of women born and knowing what’s ahead of them made me weant to put pen to paper and share some of my experiences,” she says.
