A NORLANE-based childcare and family centre set to open in 2015 will be “nothing like the north (of Geelong) has seen in child services”, according to Geelong councillor Kylie Fisher.
Corio ward’s Cr Fisher said the Windsor Park Children and Family Centre, to be located south of Northern Bay College’s Tallis Street P-6 campus, would provide a “one-stop shop” for families.
The centre would provide “a two-room preschool with 66 places, two maternal and child health consulting rooms, three consulting spaces for visiting support services, a multi-purpose playgroup group room and shared playground areas”, she said.
“It will be highly beneficial to have these co-located services in Norlane as children will become familiar with the space from early maternal health stages to when they go to kinder, and then it’s also close to two primary schools.
“The centre will be able to information-share about families to create a really good, family-friendly community hub.”
Geelong’s council appointed Perkins Architects, a Prahan-based firm that designed the Ocean Grove Integrated Children’s Centre.
The new centre is expected to open at the beginning of the 2015 school year.
