Bomber charged

Police have charged former Cats premiership Coach Mark ‘Bomber’ Thompson with drug-trafficking and possession after seizing almost 1kg of drugs including MDMA and ice at his Port Melbourne home.

Football friends and former colleagues expressed shock after Mr Thompson was bailed on a $20,000 surety at Melbourne Magistrates Court this week, with the Essendon and Geelong legend to reappear on 25 May.

Woman missing

Police have called for help to find a woman who went missing on a trip from Melbourne to Torquay this week.

Police said Angina Pal, born in 1957, disappeared after leaving Hawthorn on Tuesday, with anyone knowing her whereabouts urged to phone Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Artworks shortlisted

Geelong Gallery has shortlisted 36 works from 550 entries for the city’s richest annual prize for artists.

The gallery said “leading and emerging” Australian artists would vie for the $30,000 2018 Geelong Contemporary Art Prize, with the winner announced on 8 June.

Fix call

Another serious accident at a notorious Ocean Grove intersection has led to residents calling for action.

Killi Finlayson launched the community push, labelling the corner of Presidents Avenue and Orton Street a death-trap after an 18-year-old motorcyclist suffered serious injuries in a collision with a car last week.

Symbol award

A team of Barwon Health volunteers has achieved an Australian-first award for interacting with patients suffering communication problems from illness or injury.

Scope is set to present its Communication Access Symbol to McKellar Centre Volunteer Services today as part of a global network of symbols acknowledging success in working with disabled people.

Dog cracksown

Surf Coast Shire plans to hire an extra officer to patrol on a “beach vehicle” for dog-owners breaking council rules.

The shire attributed the move to its “growing community”, with an increasing population of residents along the coast and at Armstrong Creek taking their pets to the municipality’s beaches.

Artists unveiled

A renamed annual exhibition of disabled artists’ works will open at Geelong’s Gordon Gallery next week, its organiser has announced.

The 2018 art X, formerly KarnivART, would feature works from more than 80 “experienced and emerging artists” from 9 to 16 May, local welfare agency genU said.
