Lorne’s parking meters are in the sights of a Surf Coast councillor after the success of a campaign against paid parking for beaches at Torquay, Jan Juc and Anglesea.
Winchelsea’s Lindsay Schroeter has announced a campaign to rid Lorne of its meters, in place since 2004 and operating each year from December 1 to April 30.
Cr Schroeter said State Government’s decision to scrap Great Ocean Road Coast Committee’s plans for more paid parking should not have excluded Lorne.
“If they’re not going to have parking metres at Torquay, Jan Juc and Anglesea, why should Lorne be any different?” Cr Schroeter said.
“Let’s face it: it’s not fair.”
Cr Schroeter, a former parking meter inspector, said he would contact MP Terry Mulder, whose seat includes Lorne, with complaints on behalf of the town’s community.
“I’m going to write him a letter,” Cr Schroeter said.
