NORTH Geelong and Geelong will face off in this Friday night’s highly anticipated preseason soccer cup grand final after spectacular wins last weekend.
North Geelong overcame a determined Surf Coast 1-0 before beating Geelong Rangers 2-1 to continue an unbeaten run to the grand final.
Geelong thrashed Bell Park 4-0 to set up the showdown with North.
Geelong Cup tournament liaison officer Russell Butler said Friday night’s grand final would provide hot competition thanks to the breadth of talent in the two teams.
“Surf Coast especially put on a good performance and surprised a lot of people last week but North Geelong was unstoppable,” he said.
“They’ll go straight through to the grand final against Geelong in a match I predict will go into overtime. They’re both very strong, proven teams who have always been the top sides in Geelong.”
In other games, Corio drew with Geelong Rangers 1-1.
Surf Coast will take on either Corio or Bell Park to battle for third and fourth.
Geelong and North Geelong will face off at Stead Park Reserve, Corio, on March 4.
The champion will receive $2500, the runner-up will earn $1500 and the third-place team will leave with $500.
