The region’s “peak charitable organisation” will unveil a new name next week, according to officials.
United Way Geelong will reveal its changed identity after announcing late last year that it had split with its national and international parent bodies.
The Geelong branch left United Way fearing its new “centralised strategy” would put increased emphasis on capital cities at the expense of regional centres.
The Geelong organisation is set to announced its new name on Monday.
A not-for-profit organisation, United Way Geelong provides financial support to more than 70 health and human care agencies throughout the region.
The organisation relies on volunteers and donations.
A series of annual events also provide funding, including a TGM Barwon Banks Fun Run this Sunday.
Organisers said registration for the run from the Moorabool Street bridge to Queen’s Park and back were available at barwonbanksfunrun.com.au or from 7am to 8.45am before the 9am start on Sunday.
