A Torquay Hotel bouncer who allegedly used his daughter’s phone to purchase drugs has been granted bail after facing Geelong Magistrates’ Court.
Police charged Breakwater’s Kevin Whiting on Wednesday with possessing, using and trafficking cannabis and amphetamines.
Police arrested Whiting as part of Operation Bulbul, which also led to Geelong Football Club premiership player Mathew Stokes fronting court on drug charges.
Operation Bulbul had previously led to a court hearing that Grovedale’s Matthew Randall, 36, had made 2880 phone calls during January, with 70 per cent of the calls relating to the sale of drugs.
Geelong Police Senior Constable Matthew Plunkett this week told the court Whiting had allegedly contacted Randall 31 times through mobile phone calls and text messages in relation to the sale and purchase of drugs.
Sen Const Plunkett alleged Randall contacted Whiting to order 1.5 pounds of cannabis.
Sen Const Plunkett said 50-year-old Whiting spoke “in code” about the weight and price of the drugs.
Whiting allegedly used two mobile phones to carry out the transactions, one of which police traced back to his daughter.
“Every conversation in some way, shape or form was referring to drugs,” Sen Const Plunkett told the court.
Whiting was granted bail to reappear in Geelong Magistrates Court on May 28 for a committal hearing.
Sen Const Plunkett said Whiting was the final arrest for Operation Bulbul.
The operation led to charges against seven people, including Stokes on cocaine offences.
