The operator of Geelong’s oil refinery is on track to raise $120,000 for a charity which helps children with life-threatening conditions.
Some of Viva Energy’s money for Very Special Kids will help Lara’s Harry Booth and his family with his treatment for renal failure.
Harry, who is turning four this month, and mum Eileen returned home from Melbourne on Thursday morning exhausted after his latest 10-day stint in hospital.
“We had someone (from Very Special Kids) come in pretty much every day which was great,” Eileen said.
“They’re the best, they come in and they’ve got toys. He loves it.”
Harry has been on dialysis since he was six months old.
“I don’t think he would remember not being on it,” Eileen said.
“It’s been a rough ride.”
The family will stay at the charity’s temporary accommodation for Harry’s surgery when they finally find a matching donated kidney.
“It’s good to know we’ve got somewhere to stay as a family so we don’t have to burn a hole in the highway driving up and back again,” Eileen said.
