Tech Savvy tips on tap for seniors

SENIORS across Geelong are being encouraged to embrace and become more comfortable with technology following the introduction of a new, free training program.
The Tech Savvy Seniors training program helps seniors learn more about computers, smartphones and tablet technology at Geelong regional libraries.
Duane Dalton, from Telstra, said new communication technology gave people the opportunity to be more connected than ever.
“The convenience of smartphones and computers also means doing things like reading the news, shopping, paying bills, banking and planning holidays has never been easier,” Mr Dalton said.
Research showed that 64 per cent of Victorian Seniors Card holders used the internet each day.
The state government has joined forces with Telstra to fund the initiative, delivering face-to-face technology training to more than 6000 seniors through rural and regional libraries across Victoria.
The program will also provide self-teach Tech Savvy Seniors DVDs to libraries throughout Victoria to help reach those who are not yet online.
These DVDs will also be distributed to community learning organisations to extend the reach to as many seniors across the state as possible.
