ORCHIDS, still considered among the most exotic of flowers, were once worth more than money in their own economy.
But local flower lovers can still get into the trade for much less at Geelong Orchid and Indoor Plant Club’s annual show this weekend.
Secretary Judy Dietrich said the show’s plant sales were always popular.
“They’re a good opportunity to get hold of some lovely plants at reasonable prices with that extra touch of TLC by club members.
“This year will be a magnificent display because it’s been a good year for growing orchids, with good rains and early warm weather.”
Judy said the club would also showcase its indoor plants including ferns, bonsai and succulents, while visitors could get their fingers dirty in potting demonstrations.
The $4 entry included a Devonshire tea “worth coming on its own” to the show from 10am to 4pm both days at Christ Church hall corner of Moorabool and McKillop streets, Geelong.
