Jay Leno backs Geelong’s carbon fibre wheel

GEELONG’S high-tech carbon fibre wheel has won a major thumbs-up from US comic Jay Leno.

The broadcaster’s Youtube program “Jay Leno’s Garage”, with millions of car enthusiast followers, gave a glowing endorsement to the Carbon Revolution one-piece wheel.

Featured on the program’s new product segment, the carbon fibre wheel received the full road test treatment on a Porsche, focussing on the wheel’s lightness and stiffness, and the extra grip it provides on the track.

Leno, host of NBC’s Tonight Show for 17 years, is a mortoring enthusiast himself and boasts a private collection of almost 900 vehicles.

The Carbon Revolution wheel meets the toughest manufacturing standards and is used in a range of high end cars, such as Porsche, Audi, BMW and Lamborghini.

Carbon Revolution is building a manufacturing facility on Deakin’s Waurn Ponds campus, next to Carbon Nexus, with which it will work closely in the research, development and testing of carbon fibre.

When complete, the new facility will allow Carbon Revolution to move to mass production, increasing its annual output of lightweight, super-strong wheels from 4000 to 50,000, – with added potential for new wheel markets, in general automotive, truck and aircraft manufacturing.

The wheel was produced in partnership with Deakin University.
