Here’s the tip: Chicken wins holiday

GEELONG radio personality Paul ‘Chicken’ Dyer knows all about redemption in the football world.
Last year he frittered away a lead entering the last week of the Independent’s Tip-Stars competition.
But 12 months later the K-Rock breakfast star’s consistent performance was rewarded with six correct tips in an unpredictable round 22 to win the 2010 Tip-Stars.
Chicken finished with 120 tips – three less than what earned him second in 2009.
“I was leading in round 21 last year but I folded like a cheap suit,” he said.
“It was similar again this year when it came down to that last round of tips.”
Chicken revealed the secret of his success as keeping emotion out of tipping decisions.
Car dealer Frank Burge finished second with 119, while The Groove Train’s Jessie Jones was third on 117 after a count-back from Buxton Real Estate’s Ben Riddle.
Chicken won airfares and accommodation for two on the Gold Coast for five nights.
“Mrs Chook is very happy,” he said.
“She was putting me under a bit of pressure the last couple of weeks to bring home the bacon because I don’t take her away very often.”
Chicken, a keen surfer, laughed off suggestions he could use the second airfare ticket to take a surfboard instead.
“I’m pretty sure I’ll down luggage to get the boards in. I don’t need clothes – just a pair of boardies and a board,” he said.
