TWO GEELONG automotive component manufacturers have won a combined $1.45 million in government grants for new projects, the Federal Government has announced.
North Geelong company MHG Glass will get $1 million towards a $3.92m project developing a new architectural glass processing business.
South Geelong based Backwell IXL receives $450,000 towards a $900,000 project to develop an innovative fast mounting system for commercial solar rooftop applications.
Federal Member for Corangamite Sarah Henderson welcomed the government investment to the companies to diversify and create new jobs.
“This is fantastic news for the Geelong region and demonstrates our government’s commitment to supporting the future of automotive manufacturing in our local area,” Ms Henderson said.
The grants are part of more than $17.6 million in project investments for nine Australian automotive component manufacturers as they move into new industry sectors.
Ms Henderson said the Automotive Diversification Programme funding was part of the Australian Government’s $155 million Growth Fund.
“This funding is critical for companies to grow their business and plan for their futures, while also retaining important skills and jobs in the Geelong region,” Ms Henderson said.
“It is part of the Australian Government’s suite of industry and manufacturing programs dedicated to ensuring a strong and sustainable manufacturing industry in Australia.”
The next round of the Automotive Diversification Programme opened today with applications closing on 17 September.
