Homicide probe on mysterious death

The mysterious death of a Waurn Ponds woman in Corio over the weekend has led to a police homicide investigation.
Police were called to an address in Matthews Road about 10pm on Friday after reports that a woman had been assaulted.
Emergency services attended the address but could not revive the 44-year-old woman, who died at the scene.
Homicide squad detectives spoke with a number of people at the property, a police spokesperson said.
“At this stage, police believe this is likely to be a targeted incident.”
The spokesperson declined to provide any further information, and said police had yet to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the woman’s death.
