A national award has celebrated the quality of GC Geelong Coast magazine.
The glossy quarterly won Best Special Publication at a Community Newspapers of Australia annual awards night in Melbourne last Friday.
GC was the category’s only finalist from the Geelong region, beating competition from around Australia to win the coveted title.
Tony Galpin, the managing editor of GC and its parent newspaper, the Geelong Independent, said the award was welcome recognition of GC’s high standards.
“The CNA judges were impressed by the quality of writing, photography and design,” Mr Galpin said.
“The award is deserved recognition of the talent, dedication and enthusiasm of all the staff who work on GC.
“It’s also another demonstration of the standards set and expected in Geelong for everything from lifestyle to football and now even local publications.”
GC is a lifestyle magazine focussed on local people, places, issues, ideas and activities. The magazine utilises the resources of the Independent and its Victorian family-owned parent company, Star News Group.
GC is sold in newsagents and more than 1000 complementary copies are distributed to local venues such as cafes and the reception areas of professional offices.
