Political panel
A politician-dominated panel has fielded questions about Geelong job losses on an episode of ABC TV’s Q&A filmed in the city.

Cheaper water
Recycled water will be available at a discounted rate to residents in new suburbs south of Geelong, State Government has announced.
The Government said the Class A recycled product for toilets and gardens at Armstrong Creek and northern Torquay via a second pipeline would be 20 per cent cheaper than drinking water.

Killer jailed
An Indented Head woman who killed her partner with a pick axe and buried him in his backyard will spend at least five years in jail.
Supreme Court Justice Elizabeth Hollingsworth found Angela Maree Williams guilty of the defensive homicide of Douglas Kally in 2008 following alleged incidents of domestic violence.

Military briefing
Military industry representatives will attend a briefing next week on Geelong’s bid for a $10 billion contract to build army combat vehicles.
Mayor Darryn Lyons said now was the time for the briefing to leverage off “the spotlight” presently on Geelong’s employment issues.

Organisers said the pair would play The Hill Winery’s A Day on the Green in February after successfully touring northern America earlier this year.

Rail call
A rail service between Geelong and Victoria’s regional goldfields city should be revived, according to the Greens.
The party has backed a reopening of an “affordable, basic service” between Geelong, Ballarat, Bendigo, Maryborough and Castlemaine, withdrawn in the 1970s.

Port works
A $3.5 million roadworks program will help trucks access Geelong’s port precinct, State Government has announced.
Ports Minister David Hodgett said the improvements to North Geelong’s Shell Pde would begin next year, benefitting around 700 trucks a day.

New jobs will flow from the $20 million takeover of an Indented Head abalone farm, according to its new owner.
Craig Mostyn Group expects to employ up to 20 extra staff at the Jade Tiger Abalone farm, previously under the ownership of Great Southern Waters.
