Bore water has resumed flowing through local taps.
Barwon Water turned off the bore supply last month after 45 millimetres of rain fell on the region’s main catchment in the Otways.
The Barwon Downs borefield was off-line for eight days while a supply channel to Wurdee Boluc Reservoir flowed at full capacity.
Resumption of pumping from Barwon Downs has provided 30 million litres of bore water a day to boost the region’s potable supply.
The Independent revealed earlier this year that Barwon Water would turn to bore supplies amid declining storage capacities and increasing demand.
The authority began pumping from Barwon Downs on April 28 – the first time the region had relied on bore water in six years.
