SACKED Ford workers could end up processing abalone for Asian markets, according to a Liberal MP.
David Koch said the region’s first aquaculture processing facility could provide a new career option for ex-Ford staff “due to their manufacturing experience”.
The upper house MP raised the potential career switch after the announcement of a $380,000 grant for Indented Head aquaculture business Great Southern Waters.
The firm will use the money to develop a processing facility to meet growing Asian demand for abalone.
Mr Koch said the facility was “expected” to create eight full-time jobs by June 2016 and a further seven positions over the following two years.
