Gun threat
A ROBBER threatened a worker with a gun to steal cigarettes from a Corio milk bar on Tuesday night, according to police.
Victoria Police said the robber jumped a counter during the incident but escaped before officers in a helicopter could catch him.

Bollard hunt
A RARE timber is the target of a search to help restore dozens of Geelong’s iconic waterfront bollards, council has revealed.
Cr Michelle Heagney said City Hall needed stocks of “relatively hard to find” turpentine timber for the works on 48 bollards, two of which require full replacement.

Eggs cleared
EGGS blamed for a food-poisoning outbreak at Torquay have secured an all-clear from authorities.
Department of Health lifted its warning on products from Green Eggs farm after more than 200 customers were sick from eating food containing raw egg at The Bottle of Milk restaurant early last month.

Gallery cash
A $100,000 grant for Geelong Gallery to draw up expansion plans follows revelations it planned to occupy part of the city’s new library and heritage centre.
State Government confirmed the funding last Friday after the Independent revealed that the gallery wanted 220 square metres of the redeveloped library and heritage centre’s ground floor.

Beach talks
PUBLIC talks on restoring St Leonards’ beach will begin next week, State Government has announced.
Government officers will conduct a community workshop on Thursday to “discuss potential beach maintenance and renourishment works” for the stretch of sand between Second Ave and McLeod St.
