MARK Ward is in the pink and wants everyone to know.
It’s also the theme behind his Pink Day fund0raiser for Andrew Love Cancer Centre.
“Without those people I wouldn’t be here,” he admits.
Mr Ward was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma last year when he should have been at his happiest, awaiting the impending birth of his first child.
While dealing with chemotherapy he also contracted pneumonia, leaving him in intensive care for a month as his nightmare deepened.
“It was touch and go at a couple of stages there but I found the light at end of the tunnel and here we are today,” Mr Ward declared.
“The nightmare became my inspiration as my son was born and became the contributing factor that got me through it.
“We’ve recently celebrated his first birthday, he’s starting to walk and life is pretty sweet,” he said.
“You realise how much you love the people close to you and materialistic things go out the door.”
Mr Ward has been in remission for three months and says his specialists are “optimistic”.
Pink Day at Mr Ward’s Amazing Mill Markets will feature a best-dressed competition, a pink hairspray booth, face-painting and stallholders dressed in the theme colour.
The day begins 10am Sunday.
