GEELONG’S mayor Darryn Lyons is in the running for this year’s World Mayor Prize.

The brightly-plumed city leader is one of two Australian mayors in the race, along with Sydney mayor Clover Moore.

“It clearly shows my work in Geelong is making an impact on the world stage and I appreciate the recognition,” Cr Lyons said.

“Geelong is a smart 21st century city and this is another way to make international headlines.”

The World Mayor Prize is awarded every two years to a mayor who has made outstanding contributions to their community and worked up a vision for urban life that is relevant to towns and cities across the world.

Voting is now open to the public and The City Mayors Foundation will judge the competition based on the strength of comments not the number of votes.
