Project loses new extension bid

Still waiting: Concept images of the Rippleside proposal.

GEELONG’S $100 million perennial non-starter marina-condo project, Rippleside Quay, has been dealt another setback.
Councillors this week rejected developer Trendcorp’s bid to push the starting date back another 12 months to the end of February next year.
The company had set a deadline of February 28 this year for works to start on the former shipyard site – eight years after the 178-unit proposal won its first approval. The project has had two previous extensions.
Trendcorp would have had six years to complete the works if it had stuck to the deadline of this February.
The company is awaiting a planning tribunal ruling on new plans for the project, which would subdivide the 2.8-hectare reclaimed site into so-called super lots that could be further subdivided.
Council has opposed the changes.
Residents have opposed the project, arguing on grounds of amenity and traffic problems.
Caretakers are manning the site, which remains in disrepair with makeshift corrugated iron fencing as security alongside brightly coloured advertising hoardings.
The Independent was unable to contact Trendcorp’s Jim Ramsey for comment.
