FRIENDSHIP was the winner when Geelong hosted three seniors cricket teams from England this week, according to Graham Mulroney.
The Geelong Over 60 Cricket secretary said the Aussies won two of the matches, while England was too good against an Australian over-60s side in the third.
“The day was all about enjoying yourself at this time of life, developing new friendships and staying healthy,” Mulroney said.
“Once the games were all over people just wanted to enjoy the company of one another.”
Mulroney donned the whites for the Geelong over-60s against England 2 at Highton’s Stinton Oval.
His side’s win made the day “extra special”.
“We were chasing runs but the boys put the foot on the pedal and, with one over to go, we caught them.
“Many of the English team played county-level cricket, so to be able to knock them off was a feather in our cap.
“We’re not playing for sheep stations at this age but we’ll be talking about it for a long time to come.”
Mulroney said Belmont’s Robert Agg was captain of the losing Australian side.
“All boys dream about being captain of a cricket team, so for him it was a wonderful achievement.
“Once again Geelong produced an Australian cricket captain.”
Geelong Over 60 Cricket meets Sundays from October to March.
