Ferry back for two runs this week

By LUKE VOOGT

After the sell-out success of its maiden voyage from Portarlington to Melbourne, Port Phillip Ferries has announced two additional passenger trials this Thursday and Friday.
Bellarine Ferry Group’s John Rae said at least one of the trials should be a “full boat”.
“We had a waiting list of something like 180 names that couldn’t get on last week, and they tend to be for two people when they book.”
“If they didn’t make it last week they should definitely get on this week. We need to show the ferry operators we support it.”
Mr Rae said Port Phillip Ferries had increased the stay time at Docklands to 90 minutes for upcoming trials, meaning a more leisurely lunch for passengers.
He said the key to the ferry’s future would be providing services for both commuters and tourists.
He hoped the ferry would provide an alternative route to the “public transport starved” Bellarine, and access to its vineyards, beaches and restaurants.
“It needs to be used for both and we have that here,” he said.
Mr Rae said those interested could buy tickets at www.portphillipferries.com.au/portarlington-trial
