UPDATE:
A CORIO family was left “extremely traumatised” when a shotgun-wielding bandit jumped the counter of a Goldsworthy Rd milk bar to menace them in their home at the rear.
A man, his wife and two children, aged two and four, were terrified as the man confronted them while brandishing the gun on Tuesday evening, police told the Independent.
Local police, dog squad and the police airwing patrolled the area searching for the man, who was last seen running north across Goldsworthy Road.
“He left after taking three packets of cigarettes, no cash was stolen, but the crime he’s committed was violent, predatory, intimidating, traumatic behaviour,” Detective Sergeant Adam Foran said.
“The man walked in armed with a double-barrel shotgun, levelled the shotgun at the business owner.
“The owner retreated into a private residence attached to the business. The male offender jumped the counter and entered the private residential area and there he’s confronted the man, his wife and two kids.”
Det-Sgt Foran said it was unclear whether the offender was affected by drugs but that it difficult to establish his motive for the attack. He gave no indication of what he wanted.
“It’s a bit difficult to tell, with the trauma, at this stage there’s no clear reason,” he said.
“Obviously, the family was extremely traumatised by the event and I’d urge the man concerned to consider his position.
“If he has any remorse for his action I’d urge him to contact me directly on 5225 3166and we can talk about a plan to resolve this matter.”
