Construction of a “vibrant network of unique spaces” is underway in central Geelong, city leaders have announced.
The laneways project would “revitalise the city and bring more people into town”, said Geelong MP Christine Couzens.
“Enhancing Geelong’s laneways will contribute to our goal of a thriving economy and a vibrant city centre in Geelong,” she said.
“I’m pleased to see council’s progress on this important project and know that our Government is behind this project 100 per cent.”
The laneways project is part of a 10-year joint council and state plan to revitalise central Geelong.
Geelong’s council and State Government have committed millions of dollars to the laneway that is set for improvements ranging from additional trees to installation of public art and street furniture.
“Everyone who lives, works or plays in Geelong will benefit from these enduring, significant initiatives,” council administrators chair Kathy Alexander said.
