Cops chase pom-pom hat bandit

By PAUL MILLAR

AN ARMED thief wearing a distinctive pink hat threatened and robbed a service station attendant at an APCO service station in Newcomb on Wednesday morning.
Police said the robber, in his twenties, entered the Portarlington Road station about 3.55am before confronting a male staff member behind the counter.
The bandit threatened the attendant with a knife while demanding cash and cigarettes, which the attendant handed over.
Police said the robber then ordered the terrified staff member to hand over his car keys and wallet.
He obliged and the robber, who was clean shaven and about 170cm tall, fled on foot.
The staff member was left uninjured, police said.
Geelong Crime Investigation Unit detectives released an image of a man they believed could help them with their inquiries.
The alleged bandit was wearing a pink and purple woolen hand with a cow print, ear flaps and a grey pom-pom, police said.
He also wore a grey hoodie, dark pants and white shoes.
Police described him as being of medium build with dark hair, light eyes and an Australian accent.
