TORQUAY’S Jacinta O’Neill clocked the Surf Coast Century race in just 11 hours, but she was more excited to double her original fundraising target for cancer research.
Ms O’Neill was “stunned” to raise more than $4000 in aid of the McGrath Foundation for completing the grueling trail run.
She ran the 100km race in Anglesea last Sunday to show support for her sister who was diagnosed with breast cancer six months ago.
The Independent reported last month that Ms O’Neill considered the run “nothing compared to the battle” her sister endured.
Ms O’Neill said seeing her family smile as she completed the course nearly five hours under her goal time was the “greatest reward”.
Ms O’Neill is accepting donations through gofundraise.com.au until it closes on Saturday.
