Tributes in a field of pink

Jessica Benton
PORTARLINGTON’S Wiffen Park will disappear under hundreds of paper silhouettes next weekend as a tribute to survivors and victims of breast cancer.
Event organiser Judy Margolis, who has survived breast cancer herself, said the event would provide an opportunity for the community to pay tribute to all those affected by breast cancer in their local community.
“This is an issue close to many women and affects communities right across Australia,” she said.
“There are not many people who haven’t been affected by breast cancer, either personally, or someone close to them.
“It’s really about acknowledging the local people in the community who have been affected by breast cancer and paying tribute to people who have gone through breast cancer or have died.
“It’s a wonderful event and a chance for people to talk about how breast cancer has affected their lives.”
It is the first time the event has been held on the Bellarine Peninsula, Ms Margolis said.
The Portarlington and District Garden Club is behind the Mini-Field of Women event with the Breast Cancer Network of Australia.
The event will be on Saturday, October 10 from 9am to 4pm at Wiffen Park, corner of Newcombe and Sproat streets.
